Sometimes I get on Pinterest and I’m just overwhelmed by sorority letters and Lily Pulitzer and crafts and Bible quotes. Then I go back to Tumblr, and it’s all okay again.

I’d like to thank the Academy. But actually, I want to thank my followers.

I’m not sure why some of you are following me. I post a lot of geekery and a lot of political rampages, and I’m weird and twisted and more than a bit pessimistic. But for whatever reason, you guys are here, numbering in the three-figure range. That’s crazy to me. So, I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate it.

And know that I would love to hear from you at any time. I would love to chat with you about any of the weird stuff I post or about really anything at all. Hell, I’m okay if you just want to ask me deep, personal anonymous questions. In related news, you can always follow my other, more personal blog over at Rhymes with Seven Slogan

So, thanks guys. It’s always nice to find common ground with someone, even if it’s just a faceless Internet individual who happens to also like Star Wars and Anderson Cooper and cats. Thanks for everything, y’all.

And now, my roommate is gone for a week so I am going to blast Cheap Trick and eat Twizzlers in my underwear.

With love,
Devan

Call for Submissions: What’s Your Favorite Tumblr?

timemagazine:

At TIME.com, we’re working on a guide to the best Tumblrs out there. But we want to know what you think first.

What Tumblr can’t you live without? (Aside from ours, of course.) Whether it’s news, photography, design or just cat videos, we want to know what you follow — and why.

Reply to this post (and include the URL) with your picks. We’ll mark popular suggestions as “Readers’ Choice” in our final list, which should come out by the end of January.

Won’t let me reply for whatever reason, so I’m going to reblog and share some of MY favorite Tumblrs.

  • Cameron Frye’s Day Off
Cameron Frye is arguably the greatest character in modern cinema. I wrote an entire blog post of my own about the amazing depth of Cameron Frye and the genius of John Hughes. Who’s the only character who experiences any personal growth over the entire film? Who’s the only character who deals with real world problems like inattentive parents and unrequited love? He’s a hypochondriac, he’s depressed, he’s awkward. He’s witty, he’s sweet, he’s relatable. It’s so nice to know I’m not alone in my obsession. In fact, there’s actually a lot of us.
  • Fuck Yeah History Crushes
The description says it all: “To the men and women that stay up with you on those late, assiduous nights, coaxing you into an awes. They’ll sleep with you after you flip through the pages of their stories. They’ll never disappoint you or make you feel awkward. And let’s face it, you’ve already stalked their lives.”
Not only is this the perfect marriage of history and beauty, but you learn stuff too! Really, who could want anything else? You’ve got the basics like the ever celibate Nikola Tesla (unff), but there’s also those lesser known hotties like Lewis Powell, the failed assassin and BFF of John Wilkes Booth. The best thing about FY History Crushes is the sense of community. It’s okay if you like Nicolae Ceausecu, the general secretary of the Romanian Communist Party (described as “horrible man, beautiful face”). We understand. Personally, I’d had a shameful crush on Lewis Powell for years since I saw him in a Lincoln museum exhibit (and blogged about it too), so when I saw him on FY History Crushes… Well, I felt considerably less alone.
  • My Daguerreotype Boyfriend
Less history, more unabashed drooling. (They’ve got Lewis Powell, too!) MDB is designed to celebrate the marriage of attractive men and early photography. Some are famous, others are just described as “Union Civil War soldier” or “cowboy.” Whoever they are, they’re hotttt.
  • Comiques by Anne Emond
Emond’s quirky sketches sum up the joys and tragedies of everyday life. Scrolling through her blog, it’s so easy to think, “I’ve done that. I’ve said that. I did that today.” From the hell of facing a rainy Monday morning to the depressing characters at the laundromat, Emond has a unique way of capturing the things we think about every day but never stop to ponder.
  • Awkward Campaign Photos
Lots and lots of exactly that: awkward campaign photos. Miss Michele and the corn dog is a personal favorite.
  • Onion-like Headlines in Real Life
I’m a news junkie, so I obviously love this collection of real-life stories that could be straight out of The Onion. Some gems include “SPERM BANK TURNS DOWN REDHEADS” and “FLORIDA STATE LEGISLATOR SAYS ‘YES WE CAN’ TO DWARF TOSSING.”
  • Minimal Movie Posters
It’s design and film: two of my favorite things. Plus, it’s exposed me to some cool unknown artists, which is always a plus.
  • letters to dead people
Dear Henri De Toulouse-Lautrec, invite me to your paintings. Dear Rene Descartes, you are definitely overthinking this. Dear Graham Chapman, silly people are saints and nonsense is holy doctrine and laughter is God.
  • Comically Vintage
It’s been described as “a virtual wellspring of sex, drugs, violence and poor table manners.” I just like to consider it as one giant game of “THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID.” Out-of-context and outdated has never been so hilarious.
  • And of course, we have the inimitable, brilliant…. Kim Jong-Il Looking At Things
It’s exactly what it sounds like. Enjoy.
